More Kuzhambu (Kadi)

Ingredients

Buttermilk – 1 cup
rice flour – 1/2 tsp
coriander seeds – 1 tsp
blackgram dhal – 1 tsp
fenugreek – 1/2 tsp
red chillies – 2
green chillies – 2
grated coconut – 1 tbsp
mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
asafoetida – a bit

Method

Add a pinch of turmeric, salt, rice flour, curry leaves to buttermilk. Heat a little oil, add black gram dhal, corinader seeds, fenugreek and red chillies. Fry until golden brown and grind along with coconut and green chillies to a smooth paste and add this paste to buttermilk. Dissolve well. Keep it on fire and simmer for a while. Don’t boil too long. Remove from the fire. Season with mustard in a little oil (You can also add garlic to the tarka if you like them).

Serve it with hot rice.

P.S. This is the south indian version of kadhi. I love this version because in kadi, i don’t like the taste of besan. This is simple to make and very tasty.
