Tomato Rasam

This is how I make the tomato rasam which is very tasty especially in winter. You can also have this as a Tomato soup.

1 can Chopped Tomato
2 grape sized Tamarind
2 inch Ginger, Cut roundly and then smashed, add as many ginger as you want for your taste
5 cloves of Garlic, crushed
2 tsp of Rasam Powder
Pinch of Asafoetida

  1. Pour some hot water over the tamarind and wait for about 15 min for them to soften and then make a tamrind water out of them.
  2. Place all the ingredients in the vessel and allow it to boil for about 15-20 min.
  3. Serve hot with rice.

P.S. You can add the south indian tarka over the top of rasam if you want. I like my rasam to be little thick, so I boil them for about 25 min.
