Every woman will tell you that second trimester is the easiest and it’s quite true. Because you get used to your body changing and you don’t even bother about the indigestion or the gas as you simply take Tums and move on. I noticed that I had stopped sleeping in the afternoon during this period and my tummy has starting to show 😀 , not much but sure enough that me and even hubby noticed. Second Trimester is 13-27 weeks.
I had the same indigestion but I started experimenting with fruits but found that apple gives me heartburn 😦 . Food was still not agreeing with me but I wanted to eat chinese for some reason 😀 so we went and ate lot of chinese food during this time. I always went for noodles with lots of veggies. I had no interest in eating non-veg during this time, all I wanted was lot of veggies 🙂 . And if ever I craved for non-veg, it was just KFC 😀 with their mashed potato and corn. I think we ate out a lot during this time because my mom just went back to India and I hated cooking 🙂 . I was also feeling hungry most of the time 🙂 .
Moving on to the OB/GYN, they take blood during every visit and Thank God this visit was only once a month till the second Trimester. I absolutely HATE needles and I am just plain terrified of the pain. I could remember my tantrum in the lab when I was 16 years old. I was crying like anything even before they stuck a needle in me. I went pale when I saw the needle and started crying 😀 . But these days I just turn my head and look at something else and just grind the teeth 🙂 .
Anyway, they also do Genetic testing during this time and I think its necessary for everyone as it finds out if the baby has Down Syndrome. They checked my weight during every visit and I was terrified that I have put on lot of weight. But surprisingly I haven’t 🙂 during this trimester. I still wasn’t cooking much at home, maybe twice a week only. We also had an ultrasound during this time and to check the profiling of the baby and you can find out the sex of the baby as well if you want 😀 . I had to have 2 ultrasound because the baby refused to co-operate for the profile as it was turning on the wrong side all the time.
Other than this, they also check for the opening for cervix. It is supposed to be 4 mm to be normal and if its less than you will have complications during the birth. So I had to be to checked twice as the first time it was lower than 3 and the next time it was more than 4. So everything was good 😀 but I was little bit worried. And of course, we both wanted to know the sex of the baby and we did find out. I haven’t told any of my friends just family 🙂 as they wanted to know. This is the first grandchild in my family and all my family are very excited as well as my grandfather 😀 .
Moving on, the second trimester was going well for me. I got some more jeans and trouser and some tops as well. The weather was getting cooler in Seattle and because of the increase in my body temperature, I wanted to be warm all the time 🙂 . I hated going out in the cold. The other symptom during this period was pain in my hamstring ( side of the thighs) on both legs. I usually get them when I sleep because I could sleep only on the sides and not on the back. So every day I had pain in that area when I get up. It’s so irritating when you have to change sides and you have to get up and change the position.
The other symptom is of course peeing 😀 . You start pee a lot during this time, as the baby moves a lot and as it begins to grow, it touches the bladder making you pee all the time. I especially hate it during the night when you are sleeping soundly and you had to get up to pee 😦 .
Talking about my cats, they couldn’t understand why I don’t want them walking all over my tummy 😀 and this was the time my tummy was getting bigger and my blackie couldn’t sit comfortably in my lap as his bum was hitting my tummy. I think they could hear the baby’s heart beat but they don’t know what it means 🙂 . My baby moves when both of them are mewing next to me and even sit on my lap 😀 . And the funniest thing is, it is very quite when hubby keeps his hands on my tummy. So basically he has never felt the baby move and I thought it was the funniest thing.
And that is my second trimester, Interesting things happening in my third trimester which I will blog about in a week or two 🙂 .
